Disney Glossary

Disney Definitions

Think you know the meaning of "Ambassador" or "Cast Member"? In the magical world of Disneyland® Paris, things aren't always as they seem. Learn to "talk Disney" here.

Cast Member

Our employees are all called Cast Members. Walt Disney himself said, "It requires people to make the dream a reality." The more than 14,500 people who work at Disneyland® Paris do exactly that. The term "Cast Member" comes from the entertainment industry and is especially fitting for our employees. Each employee is part of the cast working either onstage or backstage to put on the magical show we present every day.

Casting

The Recruitment Division interviews and hires our Cast Members. Cast Members boast an astounding array of backgrounds and skills. Our current Cast represents more than 100 different nationalities and speak 19 different languages. We have adopted Mission Handicap to encourage and support the recruitment of the disabled. We cast people into roles as diverse as performer, marketing manager, hotel receptionist, even firefighter!

Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant

This is Sleeping Beauty's Castle and is the centerpiece of Disneyland® Park. As the highest point in Disneyland® Park, the castle provides a reference point for guests. Inside, they discover the story of Sleeping Beauty on the vibrantly colored hand-woven silk and wool Aubusson tapestries. Legend has it that a sleeping dragon lurks in a cave deep beneath the castle.

Community Relations

Community support and integration has always been a core Disney value and promoting good community relations is important to us. By working with charities, both locally and across Europe, our Disney VoluntEARS play a key role in our commitment to the community. Some of their regular activities include bringing magic to hospitals throughout France, granting wishes to sick children, hosting charity events in the Resort and raising funds for a number of charities.

Costumes

Costumes are the uniforms of all our Cast Members, from entertainment Cast Members to operational staff, whether in the Disney Theme Parks, Disney Hotels or Disney® Village. Much attention is devoted to detail to ensure that all costumes contribute effectively to the Disney experience. Each fabric and accessory tells a story and helps immerse our Guests in the Disney story.
